I type this post immediately after watching the usual National Day Parade at the TV and yes, I did not go to Dataran Merdeka to watch the parade with the kids as I think it’s better for them to watch it from the TV (at least not until they big enough).
I did find something odd when watching the parade especially when all the patriotik songs were sang and danced by hundreds if not thousands of this National Day Parade participants. If you hear closely, all these patriotic songs did touch or preach on the needs to have one race for this beloved country. As example,
“Pelbagai Kaum sudah berikrar, menjunjung cita-cita,
SATU BANGSA, SATU BAHASA,
Malaysia Berjaya.”
Do those who sing those songs really understand or embrace the lyrics?Based on the recent concluded By-Election for Permatang Pauh Parliament, racial issues were played shamelessly. Crazy..
So.. Are you still constrained by these racial boundaries? Are you still call some of our fellow Malaysian as Malaysian Indian, Malaysian Chinese etc or just plain Malaysian? Do you still think one race shall reign supreme from others? Do you still think that eventually those “Malaysian Chinese” and “Malaysian Indian” will bring their wealth back to China and India? Or do you still think that the protection is needed and any other competition from our fellow Malaysian but with different color and race will be deemed as a threat instead of healthy competition.
So my fellow Malaysian, of cause I will never forget how our forefathers fought with their wits and wisdom while the ordinary citizen provides them with endless support for our independence from the British Government. Also I do remember how our brave heroes like Kanang Anak Langkau in the arm forces fought and sacrifice their lives in order to preserve the harmony and peace of our beloved nation during the Communist Insurgency and Malaysian Indonesian confrontation. We must never forget that.
My friends, in order not to let whatever effort and sacrifices by our forefathers and brave heroes failed, let us stop bickering with each other, start recognize that each of the Malaysian citizen is a Malaysian citizen, respect each other differences and IMHO, once this backward racial boundaries and constraints still exist, we can never trully achieve what we’ve sing each year during our National Day celebration,
“Satu Bangsa Satu Bahasa, Malaysia Berjaya.”
Merdeka…Are you?

merdeka…merdeka…merdeka!
